Fatal accident in Lexington closes busy road for hours

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn says one man has died following an accident on Tates Creek Road near Parliament Way on Tuesday morning.  Ginn says Daniel Ethan Stamper, 18, died from blunt force trauma caused by the wreck.

The Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit spent several hours trying to figure out exactly what caused the wreck. Tates Creek Road has been shut down from Laredo Drive to Armstrong Mill since about 7 a.m.

Ginn says that a Mitsubishi may have been driving too fast when the driver swerved to miss a truck that was turning from Parliament Way, heading inbound on Tates Creek Road.  The Mitsubishi then clipped a Mercedes and was t-boned by a Chrysler.  The male passenger in the Mitsubishi died.

The coroner believes speed was a factor, but he does not suspect drugs or alcohol.

Traffic is temporarily being detoured on Walden Drive.  Police expect that portion of Tates Creek Road to be closed until at least 2:30 p.m.
