UPDATE: Coroner identifies Madison County man killed in Creek

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Madison County coroner identified Eugene Wren as the man who died on Tuesday in a creek off of Paint Lick Road.

Wren leaves behind three brothers, a sister, a mother, a father and a 13-year-old son, according to his sister Nancy Wren.

Wren also says her brother had a heart of gold and would do anything for their mother. She says he was a great family member and an awesome father.

She says the whole family is taking the loss very hard. She says his mother is particularly torn up about his death, and that she feels a parent should never see their child go before them.

On Tuesday the Madison County Rescue Squad and Berea and Richmond firefighters were trying to pull a vehicle out of the creek after someone spotted a car stuck in the water around 3:30 p.m. Rescue efforts continued throughout the day and a body was found around 7 p.m. The body was finally brought out of the high water after 11:30 p.m.

Those who knew Wren say he was a happy go lucky kind of guy, who always had a smile on his face.

The corner says he believes Wren drowned.

Wren’s sister Nancy says she thinks he slid off the road into the high water. She also says the family is looking for donations to help pay for his funeral service. Wren says she set up an account at Central Bank and Trust called the ‘Eugene Wren Memorial Fund’.
