Firefighters practice “mayday” drill
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – It’s a call that strikes a chord in the hearts of any firefighter: "Mayday."
That’s when a firefighter or crew faces a potentially deadly situation, like low oxygen, being trapped under debris, or someone falling through a floor in a burning building. Firefighters, however, don’t allow themselves to be caught by surprise by these events, and train to handle them.
That was the scene today at the fire department training center on Old Frankfort Pike. About 30 to 40 firefighters took part in a "mayday" drill, and practiced how to find someone, and how to remove them from a mayday situation.
