Hiker rescued after fall from cliff in Clark County

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ)- A hiker in Clark County needed to be rescued after a 25-foot fall Sunday evening.

According to Clark County’s fire chief, the man fell at the Heritage Creek Preserve behind Halls on the River restaurant. They said his injuries were serious, possibly life-threatening and he was airlifted to University of Kentucky Hospital.

Several agencies including Madison and Clark County responded to the scene and performed both water and rope rescue to get the hiker out of the ravine.

The Clark County fire department told ABC 36 the rescue was difficult because of the steep and rough terrains and it took longer than they anticipated.

"We like to refer to it as the golden hour when a patient has serious injuries," said Lieutenant Steve Asbury. "Due to the terrain and adverse land features that we had to traverse over and man power, it took longer than an hour. It took three hours to perform the rescue."

The hiker remains at UK hospital. His current condition is unknown.
