KSP: Traffic stop leads to stolen vehicles

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A reckless driving stop leads deputies to some stolen vehicles in laurel county.

Kentucky State Police say on Sunday at around 9:00 a.m. an officer with KSP-Vehicle Enforcement was called to assist the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department after a deputy spotted a driver driving recklessly, speeding and hitting construction barrels in an active construction work zone on Hal Rogers Parkway.

The trooper says he spotted numerous commercial vehicle violations and discovered the license plate on the trailer was removed and the VIN plate had been tampered with. After running the vehicles identification number, the trooper discovered the tractor trailer was reported stolen.

The trooper arrested 39-year-old James M. Morris of London along with his passenger 36-year-old Jerry W. Bowling of London on numerous commercial vehicle violations as well as obscuring the identity of a machine and receiving stolen property over $10,000.

Troopers then went to Morris’ home on Cole Road in Laurel County and say they found a second stolen commercial vehicle.

Police say, in all, nearly $150,000 worth of stolen commercial vehicles were recovered.
