Heart-related deaths lead workplace fatalities in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Heart attacks overwhelmingly lead the causes of workplace death in the state, according to a new report from the Kentucky Labor Cabinet.

The report, which covers workplace fatalities from 2012 to 2014, says during that period of time, 87 Kentuckians died of heart attacks while on the job.  That compares to 8 deaths from other natural causes, 28 deaths from being struck by an object, 19 deaths from falls, 17 deaths from transportation crashes, 13 deaths from being caught in or between objects, seven deaths from electrocution, one death from hypothermia, and one death from suffocation.

As far as careers go, the truck driver was the most likely occupation to suffer a heart attack on the job, while machine operators, and maintenance workers round out the top three.
