State police stop mobile meth lab
State Police say the trooper spotted a 2003 Ford Focus driving along Outlet Center Drive without headlights just after 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Police tell ABC 36 the trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver, 33-year-old Robert W. Kirby, evaded the officer and sped off.
Police say there was a brief chase and Kirby struck a mailbox, then a trooper’s cruiser and landed in an embankment at the Shell gas station at the corner of Cherry Blossom Way.
Police say they caught the driver after a foot pursuit.
Police say two other passengers, Charles S. Short, 43, and Jennifer M. Remley, 36, were in the vehicle. When police searched the car, they say they found a meth lab.
Police brought in their meth clean-up crew and the Scott County Fire Department to decontaminate the suspects and the area.
"Anytime we have an active methamphetamine lab, it is always a danger to the public and the subjects involved," said Trooper Kendra Wilson. "Our primary concern is the safety of those involved in the incident."
All three suspects were taken to the Georgetown Community Hospital to be checked out before they were arrested and formally charged.
Kirby, Short, and Remley are lodged at the Scott County Detention Center.
State police say this is an ongoing investigation.
