Petition seeks alcohol sales in Middlesboro
MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) — A petition seeking alcohol sales at restaurants in Middlesboro is gaining support from tourism officials and some local business owners.
The Middlesboro Daily News (http://bit.ly/1NDDOBE) reports that 775 signatures are needed to get the issue on the ballot for voters.
Jenifer Tyler, who is chairwoman of the petition drive, says there are already about 450 signatures on the petition and she hopes to get the rest by the end of April. Tyler says allowing alcohol sales at restaurants would help boost the economy and increase tourism.
The drive is getting support from the Bell County Tourism Board, Middlesboro City Councilman Blake Bowling and several local business owners.
