FEMA to test Emergency Alert System in 4 states

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Residents in Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio will have their regularly programmed television and radio shows interrupted Wednesday during a test of the nation’s emergency alert system.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials said the only way to see if the system is capable of providing lifesaving messages and alerts during a real disaster is by testing it.

The test will begin around 2:30 p.m. EDT and will last approximately one minute.

Officials say the test of the emergency alert system will have limited impact with only minor disruptions in radio and television programming.
