Average people don hazmat suits at Citizens’ Fire Academy
But one group of average people here in Lexington is getting that chance.
Thursday night was hazmat training night, just one of the 11 nights that the academy’s students get to get a hand’s on chance to experience firefighting.
“We do various topics from engine operation, ladder operations, hazmat,” says Lexington Firefighter Kyle Branham. “[We] just put them through and show them exactly what we do.”
“It’s awesome! It’s definitely something that is fun to experience, especially for a free opportunity,” Andrea Gordon says. “How many government entities are willing to give you a hands-on experience of what they do on a daily basis?”
“We put an emphasis on getting hands-on and [the students] actually getting out there and seeing exactly what we do,” Branham says.
Lexington’s Citizens’ Fire Academy is way for the average person to learn more about what firefighters do every day.
