Beef Expo sales top $1 million for fourth straight year
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Sales at the annual Kentucky Farm Bureau Beef Expo topped $1 million for the fourth consecutive year.
The expo hauled in $1.39 million in sales, a record for the 29-year-old event. The reserve champion Angus female fetched the biggest sale at $16,500. Altogether, the 445 lots averaged $3,127, beating the previous record of $2,547 set last year.
Consignors brought animals to the expo from 18 states. Agriculture Commissioner James Comer marveled at the sale totals given the expo took place during a massive snowstorm that brought record low temperatures and up to 2 feet of snow on some parts of the state. Comer said the sales are proof the expo has become one of the premier beef cattle events in the country.
