Water Tower renovations celebrate 1-year mark

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The restoration of a Louisville waterfront landmark is being celebrated next month.

The renovations of Pumping Station No. 1 at Louisville Water Tower Park were completed last year, and a new museum at the site opened in March.

Since then the historic site and the new WaterWorks museum have hosted 50 events and attracted visitors from 32 states. All all-day event on March 1 will celebrate the one-year mark of the new attraction.

Educators will lead historic guided walking tours, and there will be activities for kids and birthday cake. Admission will be $1 for the event.

The museum includes pieces of the original water mains, meters and tools, plus an original steam mud pump dating back to the 1860s.
