Weather cancels event for re-release of journalist’s story

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights says weather has forced cancellation of a book signing to mark the re-release of the autobiography of a journalist from south-central Kentucky.

Alice Dunnigan is a member of the Gallery of Great Black Kentuckians. In 1974, she wrote the story of her life growing up as a sharecropper’s daughter to become a journalist in the nation’s capital. Dunnigan, who is from Russellville, died in 1983 at the age of 77.

"Alone atop the Hill" has been edited by Carol McCabe Booker and is being re-released by the University of Georgia Press. Booker was to sign copies of the book Thursday in Russellville, but the event was canceled due to the winter storm, and the Human Rights Commission said it’s not known yet whether the signing will be rescheduled.
