Armed robbery prompts safety alert on UK campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An armed robbery near the University of Kentucky campus prompted an alert Monday morning.

The robbery happened at the Speedway on South Limestone just after 2 a.m.

According to police, two men wearing masks went into the store.

One of the men had a gun, police said.

They demanded cash and ran off after getting it.

K9 units were called in to track the suspects but could not locate them.

UK sent out an alert following the robbery, telling people to avoid the area.

The university issued an "all clear" about 30 minutes later.
