Man airlifted to hospital after Corbin house explosion

CORBIN, Ky. (WTVQ)- Investigators say a man was airlifted to the hospital Friday afternoon after a house explosion in Corbin. Firefighters say it happened around 12:30 on South Kentucky Street.

They say the man was severely burned, and his house was destroyed. According to investigators, at least two other homes were damaged.

Dan Seibert lives next door to where the explosion happened. He says,"It was just a big boom, and we thought that our roof had caved in. And the wall in the front room was gone, and we couldn’t open the door. We couldn’t get out…so my wife came out through the front window and noticed that this house had collapsed."

Because of the damage on his home, Seibert says he and his family had to move out of their house of 26 years. But his main concern was his neighbor. "He’s in really bad shape. We’re praying for him."

Neighbor Jewel Hanna lives across the street. She says she heard and saw the explosion. "Fire was coming out the sides, the top and everywhere…then it’s falling in both houses next door."

Investigators are still trying to figure out how the explosion happened.
