Roads remain slick in Lexington
Lexington’s Division of Streets and Roads says snow has been falling at half an inch to one inch per hour. Police say since midnight there have been four injury wrecks, 15 non-injury wrecks, and 96 motorist assists. There are extra police monitoring interstates and other major roads to help those who get stranded.
Streets and Roads says they have a certain pattern of doing things, called a snow plan, that prioritizes roads. They say getting to neighborhood streets is a lower priority than clearing main roads, and because they keep going over larger traffic arteries, areas close to home could be unsafe. Road crews are working in 12 hour shifts, and say they will get to neighborhood streets as quickly as they can.
In the meantime, Streets and Roads are advising anyone to avoid driving if at all possible. City workers also recommend checking on elderly people living nearby.
