Rowan Co Firefighter: One Man Saved, Second Man Killed In Fire

According to firefighters from Rowan County, a neighbor’s quick-thinking saved the life of a man from a fire that claimed his guest’s life.

"I’d call it heroic," said Danny Blevins, safety officer at the Morehead Fire Department.

Crews got a call about a fire of Baber Wages White Road in Morehead around 4:30 a.m.

It was neighbor Chris Clemons who dragged rescued Ollie Brickles from flames in his trailer according to firefighters.  They said Clemons’ girlfriend heard strange noises and she woke up Clemons.

Brickles was treated for some inhalation at St. Claire Regional Medical Center.

The Rowan County coroner said another man was inside who did not make it.

"Any time you can’t make a save it is stressful," said Blevins.

Investigators said they are not sure how long the home was burning

Firefighters said it looked like there was a heater on the bed.  However, the cause of the fire is not yet known as it is still under investigation.
