Ky. man plans to follow in footsteps of Boone, ancestor

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) — An eastern Kentucky man is planning to follow in the footsteps of an ancestor who helped Daniel Boone blaze a trail in 1775 from Cumberland Gap to Clark County.

Curtis Penix told the Middlesboro Daily News (http://bit.ly/1xxMmpt) that he plans to make the same trek this year, keeping as close as possible to the original trail.

His 5th great-grandfather, Joshua Penix, was among those who accompanied Boone on the 120-mile trek to what is now Fort Boonesborough.

This March will be the 240th anniversary of Boone’s trek.

Last year, a modern map marking the trail Boone took was unveiled.
