Organization aiming to develop live-work community
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A nonprofit agency is seeking to turn a row of dilapidated homes into the anchor of a live-work community in Lexington.
The Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/1A14slS) reports the North Limestone Community Development Corp. is heading up the project that aims to attract craftsmen and artists to structures where they could both live and sell their wares.
Backers say they want to provide affordable housing and preserve one of the city’s older working-class neighborhoods.
City officials have already approved a change to zoning language that would allow live-work communities to exist. The next step would be to actually seek a zone change.
Kristofer Nonn, an architect and manager for the nonprofit organization, says it is working with current property owners to determine how many will want the change before applying for it.
