Comer leads 4th-quarter fundraising, trails in total cash

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Republican James Comer led all candidates for governor in the most recent fundraising quarter with more than $555,000 in donations, but that does not mean he has the most money.

The agriculture commissioner has been raising money for four months since announcing his candidacy in September. He has raised close to $1.1 million so far and has a little over $873,000 in cash available to spend.

Former Louisville Metro Councilman Hal Heiner raised $156,000 in the three-month fundraising period ending Dec. 31. But Heiner has $3.4 million available to spend after loaning his campaign $4 million over the summer.

On the Democratic side, Attorney General Jack Conway raised just over $176,000 in the fourth quarter. Conway has raised $1.3 million since announcing his candidacy in May. He has close to $1 million in cash available to spend.
