Train Derailment In Paris

Plenty of impact on people and possibly animals after a train derailed and sent three cars into a creek in Bourbon County.

Around 3:30 Monday morning the ground under the train tracks gave out sending three  CSX train cars into the Stoner Creek according to the Paris Fire Department.

Fire Crews said a four car was off the track but did not fall into the creek.

Officials from Paris Police, Paris Fire Department, the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office, CSX and RJ Corman were all on scene.

Fire crews said the train cars were carrying coal which is now in the creek.

Crews spent Monday checking to see if there is any damage to wildlife in the creek area from the coal.

One car hit the creek dam and another hit a 15 inch sewer main according to fire crews.  The extent of the damage to both will not be known until the train cars are removed.

Fire crews said the sewer line serves about 60% of the city of Paris.

The city manager said tap water is fine.  He said the city gets its water from farther upstream and so far all water tests have come back with safe levels.

Crews hope to have everything cleaned up by Tuesday morning.

The city manager said new tracks were ready for trains once everything was cleaned up.

As work continues, the intersection of Second and Pleasant Streets is expected to stay closed.

Fire crews said fortunately no one was hurt.
