Valley View Ferry Closes Tues. For New Tow Boat Delivery

Drivers were being reminded that the Valley View Ferry was scheduled to close at noon on Tuesday, December 2.

It would remain closed until further notice.

Officials said the change was necessary as the ferry’s new tow boat was brought down the river.

The ‘John Craig II’ would be delivered to the Clays Ferry boat ramp and attached to the car barge.

Officials said a $600,000 grant from Ferry Boat Discretionary Funds helped pay for the new boat.

The Valley View Ferry Authority also said Fayette, Jessamine and Madison Counties had each chipped in $25,000 towards the purchase.

It said another $25,000 came through proceeds of the sale of the ferry’s current boat called ‘The John Craig.’
