Horse Cave mayor’s email hacked in scam

HORSE CAVE, Ky. (AP) — Horse Cave Mayor Randall Curry got an odd holiday surprise in his email — someone had hacked into it and was trying to scam people for money.

Curry told the Daily News (http://bit.ly/1xR9co8 ) that his account had been used to ask for a quick loan of $2,850 to settle a hotel bill in Turkey and allow him to leave.

Curry got word of the scam Wednesday morning and says he’s not left Horse Cave for a foreign land.

The letter contains two phone numbers that appear to be Horse Cave numbers belonging to Curry, but they vary slightly from his real telephone numbers.

The Internet scam is fairly common and has been used for the last several years with different variables.
