Proposals for Burnside lodging facility sought

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The state is seeking someone to develop and operate a lodging facility at General Burnside Island State Park in Pulaski County in south-central Kentucky.

The Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet issued a request for proposal for the facility this week.

Gov. Steve Beshear says such a public-private partnership is needed to support efforts such as the Shaping Our Appalachian Region program, which is intended to help bring more economic development to the area.

U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers says the project will bring upgrades to the Burnside Island and Lake Cumberland region.

The state says the project could be eligible for a tax rebate of up to 50 percent of the investment amount over a 10-year period.

The deadline for submitting proposals is Feb. 3.
