Preservationists plan $1 million Louisville study

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — National preservationists will converge on Louisville for a study that will turn the city into a "living lab" for testing new ideas.

The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/1tnvOKr ) reports the preservationists will spend $1 million over the next three years to study Kentucky’s largest city.

Researchers from the National Trust for Historic Preservation saw historic parts of Louisville during a downtown walking tour recently.

Members of the trust’s Preservation Green Lab team will look at revitalization efforts downtown, in NuLu, west Louisville and other historic areas that promote reuse of older buildings and stimulate economic growth.

The preservationists will devise plans to help preserve smaller buildings in "character-rich" areas and promote healthy, urban living.
