1 dead, 1 injured in Louisville blaze

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A fire official says one person has died and another has been injured after a blaze broke out at a home in Louisville.

Louisville Fire Chief Greg Frederick told WLKY-TV (http://bit.ly/1xs3poX) that emergency crews were called out to the scene about 5:30 a.m. on Monday and found flames had already engulfed the first and second floor.

He says one person died in the fire; another was rescued from a balcony and taken to the hospital. That person’s condition wasn’t immediately known.

Neighbor Anna Rittenhouse told the station that several neighbors were evacuated because high winds blew smoke into their homes.

Frederick said the wind blew the flames to another house, but firefighters were able to extinguish that blaze quickly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
