Government sell Sturgeon Bay lighthouse

STURGEON BAY, Wis. (AP) — The federal government has sold its lighthouse near the Wisconsin peninsula of Door County.

The General Services Administration accepted a Kentucky man’s bid of $48,500 to purchase the Ship Canal North Pierhead Lighthouse near Sturgeon Bay.

Gordon Krist, of Paris, Kentucky, bought the 39-foot-tall lighthouse auctioned recently by the GSA.

WLUK-TV (http://bit.ly/1xp3QCd ) reports three bidders submitted 21 bids in the last three days of the auction, driving the price up from $25,000 to the final bid of $48,500.

The lighthouse was built in 1903. The U.S. Coast Guard will continue use the lighthouse as a navigation aid.
