Water, Water Everywhere… But Not A Drop To Drink
Water, water everywhere… But not a drop to drink.
“It was just gushing," homeowner Lee Comley said. "I thought the house was going to wash away. I’ve never seen water gush like that."
Just after midnight on Friday, a water main underneath the railroad tracks on Rosemont Garden Avenue sprang a leak, water officials told ABC 36 News.
That rush of watch sent thousands of gallons of water rushing into the street, and into people’s homes.
"I [opened] up my garage door and my lawn mower went past me,” Comley said. “I had five gallons of paint and it went past me."
"I went down there and the water was just rushing in,” Comley said. “There wasn’t [anything] that I could do."
But why the mess? Kentucky American Water officials say the age of the pipe could be a reason.
"That pipe is about 60 years old or so, Kentucky American Water’s Susan Lancho said. “It could be with vibrations or with ground shifting, it could be temperature changes. There are a lot of things that could cause main breaks. We really won’t know for sure and we may never know exactly."
Although they won’t know the reason for a little while, the reason really doesn’t help Comley and his family.
"Here it is now Friday afternoon and I don’t have gas, I don’t have hot water and I don’t have electric, Comley said. “I don’t even have a place to go stay right now."
Kentucky American Water said it is helping Comley and his family clean-up his basement. They’ve had a couple contractors out today to start pumping the water out.
"It’s just a bad situation," Comley said.
