Banned Books Week Celebrated at Lexington Public Library
Its list includes titles like, "The Grapes of Wrath" and "Tropic of Cancer". But each year, rather than lament about what some call literary injustice, the Lexington Public Library celebrated their memory during Banned Books Week.
Since Banned Books Week started, more than 11,300 books have been banned. This year, the Morris Book Shop joined in on the action.
The library said while books haven’t been banned in Lexington recently, there are several surrounding communities that have challenged and successfully banned books.
"For the last week we’ve been highlighting major events in KY of banned books as close as Nicholasville in 2009 there was a major uproar over The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," said Natalie Cunningham.
Banned Books Week started back in 1982.
