Convicted Murderer Arrested On Drug Charges In Franklin Co.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s office said it arrested a convicted murderer on drug charges.

Darius Shareef was released from prison within the last few years, and is currently in the Franklin County Jail.

Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said that because they were trying to arrest a murderer, deputies kept safety in mind.

But Melton said that the arrest had taken place without any trouble.

Melton said Shareef even admitted 7 grams of crack-cocaine were his, and admitted that he was trying to sell the crack.

Melton said deputies also arrested Shareef with about $1,000.

In 1999 in Lexington, Shareef, then known as Darius Burdell, was convicted of a capital murder.

He was sentenced to 20 years.

His record dates back to his teens.

According to the Fayette County Jail, Shareef served time on four different occasions in 1997 and once in 1995.

"This is just another individual who’s making poor decisions and obviously it looks like he’s made a past of poor decisions and I think our community is better off today, because of this arrest and getting him off the streets," said Melton.

A neighbor said he had looked up Shareef’s criminal record and wished the previous home-owner had done the same.
