UPDATE: Jefferson Street Reopens After Gas Leak Forced Closure

Jefferson Street in Lexington reopened Thursday night after being closed for several hours while crews repaired a broken gas line.

Firefighters said despite being properly marked, a construction crew hit a gas line Thursday afternoon around 2:00 p.m.

It forced the temporary closure of Jefferson Street between Second and Third Streets.

The gas leak led to the temporary evacuation of two nearby homes as a precaution.

Firefighters said no one was hurt.

Columbia Gas spent hours repairing the broken line.
