Seventh Annual Lexington Pride Festival
The seventh Lexington Pride Festival was the second largest free community event in the area.
Drag shows, dancing and musical performances were just some of the ways people had fun on the courthouse lawn.
Groups promoting advocacy and awareness shared a message they say is important.
"We find that gay and lesbian seniors have a tendency to be invisible in the eyes of healthcare providers and aging service providers. Since people over the age of 65 is the largest-growing segment of the United States population, this is an issue people can no longer ignore. We can’t pretend that all of our seniors are the same," said Troy Johnson, Senior Pride Initiative spokesperson.
Saturday, a Kentucky civil rights group, The Fairness Campaign, honored seven Kentucky cities with fairness laws. Lexington was one of them.
