Lexington Cuts Down Ash Trees To Save Other Trees
Lexington plans to cut down about 40 ash trees, because they’re infested with the emerald ash borer.
Once the ash borer gets into the tree, it’s essentially a terminal illness, which is also contagious.
"No management is mismanagement in this case. If we let those trees stay, then they’re just basically harboring the insect," said John Saylor, LFUCG arborist.
Saylor says they first found the ash borer in the southwestern part of the county by Clays Mill. 5 years later, it’s worked its way up Man O’ War to Hamburg. That’s where a crew spent the day cutting trees down.
