Fayette records another ‘moderate’ weekend of new COVID cases

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Another low weekend of new coronavirus cases again suggests the surge may be subsiding in Fayette County, but health experts warn residents should not get complacent, especially with family gatherings and Christmas parties coming up.

According to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department’s daily morning report Monday, the county confirmed 180 new cases Saturday and 78 Sunday, bringing the total since March to 21,724.

Unfortunately, the county also recorded five deaths, raising that total to 152.

The county has confirmed 4,321 new cases and 19 deaths through the first 20 days of December.

That’s more than all of August, September or October.

To help slow the spread of COVID-19, follow these guidelines:
• Wear a cloth face-covering in public
• Avoid close contact with others
• Wash your hands often
• Stay home if you are sick.
