Beshear: Fighting COVID-19 has been ‘hard emotionally’

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Andy Beshear’s first year as Kentucky’s governor has been consumed by the COVID-19 crisis.

He made decisions to restrict public life that once seemed unimaginable as infections and deaths mounted.

Amid waves of spiking coronavirus cases, the governor temporarily closed or scaled back businesses and halted in-person classes.

He preached the virtues of wearing masks in public and limiting gatherings.

His executive actions spurred legal challenges and protests.

Beshear has maintained an even-keeled approach to confronting the crisis and pushback to his actions.

But he acknowledges that navigating the state through the dangers of a pandemic has been “hard emotionally.”
