Brewed, Libertarian Party of Kentucky to put on photos with Santa

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A coffee shop in Lexington has teamed up with the Libertarian Party of Kentucky to put on a photos with Santa event, following an order to close for violations of the state’s coronavirus-related mandate against in-person dining at bars and restaurants.

Brewed is now open as an events venue, after an emergency injunction to close last week.

Brewed’s owner Andrew Cooperrider shared a post on Facebook Monday morning that reads in part, “The Judge has handed down the order to not serve food or drink. I have not done so. However, the Governor is starting to take this personal. Apparently the fact he wrote a mandate that allows event venues to operate by different rules is somehow my fault. The state is now trying to get involved in our case and ask the Judge to hold me in contempt.”

As WTVQ ABC 36 News has reported, the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department posted the court-ordered $5,000 bond last Wednesday and a judge officially filed an injunction against ‘Brewed’ and Cooperrider for violations of the state’s coronavirus-related mandate against in-person dining at bars and restaurants.
Cooperrider said Wednesday he would now operate as a venue, which would restrict the number of people inside, all who would be required to wear masks. It would not allow serving food and drinks.
Operating as a venue and compliance could open a new set of legal issues in the case, even before Fayette County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Travis takes up the formal legal issues involved in the case leading to the injunction.
If Cooperrider is determined to be in violation of the injunction, he could be held in contempt of court which could land him in jail or fined.
According to a Facebook event by Brewed and the Libertarian Party of Kentucky, people are invited to have pet and/or people photos with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the coffee shop.

The event description reads in part, “Santa will be on the patio ready to spread some joy. Receive a framed 4×6 photo of your Santa portrait, a digital copy sent via email, and a gift bag per family. The Price is $20 per portrait and you can have as many people and/or pets in the photo as you please.”

The event also says all proceeds from the event will go to the Libertarian Party.
