UK students talk election results, hopes for next four years
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Days later people across the world are still reacting to President-elect Joe Biden’s projected victory.
We talked to UK students about the election results and their hopes for the next four years.
“I hope that we can all come together and move past it,” says UK sophomore Hannah Gross.
Moving past the election that’s what UK students we talked to want. But they’re not quite there yet.
“Personally I think the election was rigged with a lot of voter fraud,” says Gross.
“I think it was weird just knowing it was going to take more than just Tuesday to know the results,” says UK sophomore Alex Fleener.
The results came on Saturday when the Associated Press and others called the race for Joe Biden.
Now, students are trying to look ahead though Fleener thinks lawsuits will make that difficult.
“I think if we manage to make it to the end without nothing too bad happening, if we make it through this middle point to where no matter who wins the other side concedes and kind of goes ‘okay, that’s enough’,” says Fleener.
Gross hopes some of Donald Trump’s work isn’t reversed.
“I think he did a lot of good things for this country so I hope he doesn’t undo all of the things, the good things he did,” says Gross.
Gross also hopes for equality for all, something some think President Trump worked against.
“Even at UK I do see a lot of division between communities and I just hope we can all come together and just live in peace at college and for the country,” says Gross.
Fleener hopes to see more bi-partisan work.
“I know McConnell and Biden probably have some history to work off of,” says Fleener. “I hope they can come together and are willing to work to make America better than it was ever.”
He says if that doesn’t happen he could see it being an unproductive four years.
“Where nothing gets passed at all and the Senate and the House and the presidency just continuously fight each other,” says Fleener.
These students hope for a brighter future – one that starts today.
