Lexington, UK Officials Push for Safe Celebrations During NCAA Tourney
Robert Mock, UK’s Vice President for Student Affairs, reminded students that if they take part in dangerous or illegal behavior, they won’t just face criminal charges, but possible penalties from the university.
Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and UK President Eli Capilouto also announced Tuesday that the city and university will work together to make sure everyone stays safe during and after this weekend’s games.
Parts of the city’s and university’s safety plan include:
• Moving the Lexington Division of Fire’s command post close to UK and bringing in extra firefighters
• Lexington’s Division of Code Enforcement has sent out around 200 door hangers in neighborhoods close to UK’s campus. The hangers provide details concerning trash and combustibles.
• UK Police are utilizing a new security system installed on campus last year, which includes nearly 400 cameras and will help investigations should any criminal behavior take place.
