Lincoln Co. golfer’s season cut short after teacher gets COVID-19

LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — A Lincoln County High School golfer had to miss the regional tournament because she had to quarantine when a teacher in the high school tested positive on the first day of in-person classes.

Shelby Wilson didn’t know her most recent match would be her last this season.

Her mom was contacted by the school district Monday night about the teacher’s positive test and Wilson’s need to quarantine. The regional was the next day.

Wilson says it’s disappointing because she worked hard the entire season to get to this moment to play in the regional and try to get a spot at state.

It’s important for her because she wants to get a scholarship to play in college.

If there’s a silver lining she’s only a sophomore so, she hopes to have two more cracks at it.

“I’m really looking forward to the next two years to get to grow with my golf career and next year go to regions and do better than I would’ve this year if I would’ve went,” says Wilson.

During the two weeks of quarantine Wilson and around 120 of her fellow students will go to school online.
