UPDATE: Gov. Beshear orders flags to half-staff for Corbin MIA soldier who is now ‘home’

CORBIN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Gov. Andy Beshear orders flags to half-staff Saturday in honor of Corbin MIA soldier’s return home.
“We are all glad to have our Kentucky soldier home again, and closure for his family,” said Gov. Beshear. “Lowering the flag to honor his service and sacrifice is a tangible symbol of our respect and compassion for all veterans and their families.”
Cpl. Billie Hash’s body was identified following a joint forensic review involving DPAA personnel and North Korean representatives, 55 boxes of remains were handed over to the DPAA for analysis and possible identification in August 2018, according to Beshear’s office.
One of those boxes contained human remains that based on their location and the last known location of Cpl. Hash, allowed DPAA to conclude that they are his remains.
From The Governor’s Office:
“The date of Corporal HASH’s death was previously established by the U.S. Army as 31 December 1953. Based on the available evidence, the cause of death cannot be determined to a sufficient degree of medical certainty, and is best certified as ‘Undetermined.’ Based on the historical record the manner of death is certified as ‘Undetermined.’ The date of death is more consistent with the date of loss 6 December 1950. If additional remains of Corporal HASH are recovered and identified, disposition of those remains will be in accordance with the wishes of the next of kin.”

Services for a Corbin man who was missing in action in Korea for 70

The body of Cpl. Billie Hash was returned home Wednesday with a police escort from Cincinnati to Hart Funeral Home in Corbin.
A military honor service and presentation of medals is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 at the funeral home. Visitation is 6-8 p.m.
A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 at Worley Cemetery on Worley Cemetery Road which intersects with KY 727 about four miles from Corbin.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A final escort home is underway for a Corbin soldier and Korean War veteran who was killed during the Korean conflict.
Cpl. Billie Hash was listed as Missing in Action in 1950. The veteran is being escorted home to Corbin, along with a large group organized by Rolling Thunder, to pay their respects.
The escort met in Lexington Wednesday morning and will travel more than 160 miles to Hart Funeral Home in Corbin, according to Rolling Thunder.
