LYON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – She’s lived through two world wars, the Great Depression, the Spanish Flu pandemic and now is going through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Celebrating her 109th birthday, she deserves at least a parade.

And Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Harrington got it Wednesday, with a huge surprise parade filled with fire trucks, police, ambulance service, emergency management, mayors from Kuttawa, Eddyville, and Calvert City, the Lyon County Judge Executive and more than 25 cars of friends and family.

She is the oldest resident at River’s Bend Retirement Center. She and her late husband, Paul, opened the Calvert City Drive-in in 1953 and she still owns it today.

She was all smiles and waved at every car and truck passing by. After the parade, she returned inside the facility to visit with her family outside her window.
