City of Wilmore, Vets team up for 13th summer concert series
WILMORE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The City of Wilmore is kicking off their 13th summer concert series Friday, June 14 with a special Flag Day lineup.
Wilmore’s Summer Spectacular Weekend is a free, family friendly event.
Judy Woolums, Executive Director of Wilmore Community Development, says because the event begins on Flag Day, they teamed up with the Rolling Thunder Kentucky Chapter Five.
On Friday, the traveling Kentucky Vietnam Wall will be escorted to the Downtown Green by the Patriot Guard and Rolling Thunder. The public will be able to view it starting at 4 p.m. Friday through Saturday evening.
A flag raising ceremony will also take place Friday evening in honor of Major Roger C. Woodard, who went missing in action during the Korean War.
“We’re actually dedicating that flag as well as the flag pole,” said Todd Matonick with Rolling Thunder Kentucky Chapter Five.
Matonick says the ceremony will take place at the Downtown Green at 6:45 p.m. and will be followed by a candlelight vigil.
As for the music, Woolums says it will take place Friday and Saturday on the Downtown Green from 7-9 p.m. each night rain or shine.
Admission is free and tables and chairs will be provided. Dogs on leashes will also be allowed.
