Lexington’s annual Fire Prevention and Wellness Festival
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Preventing fires was the focus of a festival Sunday in Lexington.
It was the annual Fire Prevention and Wellness Festival held at Masterston Station Park for the fourth year in a row.
The festival coincides with fire prevention week.
The free, family-friendly event hosted by the Lexington Fire Department featured activities like fire truck rides, a kids combat challenge, fire safety stations and health and wellness booths.
Captain Jessica Bowman with the fire department says the main reason for the festival is education.
“To educate them on fire safety. What they can do to reduce the risk and what they can do if they find themselves in actual fire. And we try to do it in a fun way. We have a lot going on here today. Additionally, we just introduce them to aspects of the fire department that they weren’t familiar with,” says Captain Bowman.
The event drew thousands of people.
The fire department says it’s a way for the department to give back to the community that does so much for them.
