University of Kentucky proposing tuition hike

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Tuition could be going up for students at the University of Kentucky.

On Tuesday, President Eli Capilouto sent out a campus email, outlining a budget proposal that would raise tuition by 2.4 percent for in-state undergraduate students this fall.

The university raised in-state tuition by 2.5 percent last year.

The university is also proposing a 2 percent merit pool raise for eligible non-UK HealthCare faculty and staff. Capilouto says salary adjustments for UK HealthCare employees may be considered later.

There will also be a $3 increase in monthly parking fees for some spaces on campus under the proposal.

The UK Board of Trustees will be approving the university’s budget next month.

The university says more than 5,400 have committed to attend UK in Fall 2019.
