Friends hold vigil for Frankfort shooting victim

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Dozens of people gathered Wednesday to remember a young man killed overnight in a Frankfort parking garage.

Police says 40-year-old Antonio Bolling was arrested this morning for killing 24-year-old Coty Lee Brumback and his dog.

Talking about their friend is all this group can do now to “spend time” with Brumback.

“Completely devastated like we lost a family member,” says John, Brumback’s friend and roommate.

Hours after learning Brumback was shot and killed in a Frankfort his friends shared memories in what they say was his favorite park, Woodland in Lexington.

“It’s just like my brother, literally like losing my little brother. I’m just kind of in shock about it honestly,” says John.

Police say the shooting happened just after midnight Wednesday. Officers arrived to find Brumback with multiple gunshot wounds.

They found his dog, Baloo, dead beside him also shot.

Bolling, a convicted felon, is behind bars accused not only of killing Brumback but also of animal cruelty.

Tommy Purvis says he knew Brumback well. He helped tow his jeep just hours before he was shot.

“Coty he’s gonna be missed real bad. He was a good guy. It’s sad to see that happen to him right there,” says Purvis.

With tears in their eyes, his friends at the vigil shared how the world isn’t as bright without him in it.

“Anytime he walks into the room he just lights it up like his smile makes you smile from a mile away,” says John.

They say Baloo went everywhere with him.

They don’t understand why someone would have done this.

“He took one of the best people I’ve ever met for no reason. He took two of my best friends from me. That dog was literally my best friend. We were with him and his dog every single day,” says Brumback’s friends.

They say he was so positive, had no enemies.

“A beautiful spirit his karma is just so good it’s like the last thing you would expect to happen to somebody that good. It’s just not fair. Doesn’t make sense,” they say.

John says make sure to tell your friends you love them.
