Phone scam warning in Boyd County
ASHLAND, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Boyd County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a phone scam making the rounds in the county.
Deputies say a man is calling people, identifying himself as Michael Taylor and he’s calling about citations and tickets.
Victims say the caller asks for their Social Security number, driver’s license number and date of birth.
Deputies say the number showing up on caller ID is 606-405-3118 ext. 702. If you call the number, the automated system identifies itself as the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office, but that is not a number of the actual sheriff’s office.
Deputies remind people never to give out personal or financial information over the phone to someone you don’t know.
No Law Enforcement agency would call people asking for personal and financial information over the phone.
If you receive one of these scam calls, contact the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office at 606-739-5135.
