Clay County mother to stand trial for newborn’s death

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Clay County mother accused of killing her newborn is declared competent to stand trial.

The Clay County Circuit Court says a judge made the ruling on Monday.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Amber Bowling gave birth to a baby boy in December 2018.

They say she then placed the newborn in a garbage bag and threw the bag off a two-story balcony.

An autopsy revealed the newborn suffered cranial bleeding and fractured ribs.

Bowling’s trial is scheduled for May 2020.
