Lexington barber school offers students free back to school haircuts
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Some Fayette County students are going back to school in style thanks to a Lexington barber school.
For the third year in a row the Lexington Academy of Barbering offered free haircuts for students Tuesday, the day before school started back.
The school started cutting hair at 8 a.m. and didn’t stop until 4 p.m.
The line was out the door when we were there.
One kid talked with us about why he wanted a haircut from here.
“I just wanna ya know look good. Try to impress myself,” says fourth grader Amerion Munyua.
And that’s the exact goal the barber school is looking to achieve.
“We just want to make sure that all the children that we can possibly get, go back to school with high self esteem and looking good,” says school director Brenda Yates.
Yates says she doesn’t just want to teach her students about cutting hair, she also wants to teach them to give back whenever they can.
