Otega Oweh drafted in second round to Oklahoma City Thunder
Marks the Wildcats 147th all-time selection in the NBA draft
BROOKLYN, Ny. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Former Kentucky guard Otega Oweh is headed to the NBA after being selected with the 41st overall pick in the second round of the NBA Draft.
Oweh was initially selected with a pick by the Miami Heat that was later dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he will join former Kentucky standout and back-to-back NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Oweh becomes the second Wildcat selected in this year’s draft. Freshman forward Jayden Quaintance was chosen 20th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round on Tuesday night.
With Oweh’s selection, Kentucky has now produced 147 NBA Draft picks, the most of any men’s college basketball program in the nation.
Oweh capped off an outstanding senior season in Lexington by scoring in double figures in 35 of Kentucky’s 36 games. He averaged 21.1 points per game during SEC play and earned All-SEC Second Team honors after emerging as one of the conference’s top scorers.
Oweh became the 147th player in Kentucky men’s basketball history to be selected in the NBA Draft, extending the Wildcats’ NCAA-leading total of all-time draft picks.
