JCPS investigates allegations of abuse
Jefferson County Public Schools and Child Protective Services are investigating allegations of abuse involving a student at Field Elementary School in Louisville.
The allegations were first shared publicly by the child’s mother, Tiphanee Lee, who posted videos on social media that she says were recorded using a camera hidden in her non-verbal son’s hair.
Lee alleges a staff member verbally and physically abused her son, who has autism.
On Friday, Louisville Metro Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins joined Lee in calling for cameras to be installed in classrooms serving non-verbal children.
In a statement, JCPS officials confirmed the employee involved is not allowed in the school building during the investigation.
Field Elementary Principal Deb Rivera says the district is taking the allegations seriously and is following district procedures while reviewing the incident.
JCPS Police are also investigating.
